Maybe you’ve heard of these free COVID tests… Maybe you haven’t?
Either way, I’m going to show you how to order FOUR free COVID tests for yourself!
I’ll share what my experience was like receiving my kit on assignment, my wait time, and how the kits came in the mail.
Let’s go!
Free COVID Tests: Where to Order
The US government has decided to provide every US household with 4 FREE COVID tests!
That’s pretty exciting, right?
My only concern as a travel tech (who happens to currently be smack dab in the middle of an assignment) is that they might not be willing to send those lovelies to my address.
Not my permanent address? Check.
Multiple states away? Check.
Did I try it anyway? Absolutely!
I’ll show you where I got them!
Head on over to COVIDtests.gov and you should be at their landing page. It looks a little bit like this:
Free COVID tests: How to Order
Once you’ve made it to the landing page you can start your order!
Click the “Order Free At-Home Tests” button and you’ll magically get transported to the ordering screen. (Which happens to be through the USPS, so that’s legit.)
All you have to do is fill in your contact information, and your current address. Then click the bright green “check out now” and your lovely little rapid tests will be on their way.
Well, soon.
We think.
You should receive a confirmation email that your order has been received.
Oh, by the way, I entered my assignment address here. Guess what? They showed up! Neat!
Expected Wait Time
So, I can say that there was a bit of a wait.
I have a feeling that by this point the popular phase may have died down a bit. So, results my vary!
Anywho, you’ll probably see those test kits in 2-6 weeks. I got mine at my assignment address at just about 4 weeks on the dot.
USPS “Out for Delivery” Email
Check your email inbox periodically for that dopamine hit of “out for delivery”. Although, it’s USPS this time, not Amazon.
A competitor has entered the ring! Well, not really. We all know our future. Don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about.
Free COVID Tests: What You Receive
Look at this fancy packaging!
At least the little buddies didn’t get CRUSHED during transit.
Anyways, you basically are going to get two COVID test kit boxes, each with two tests each.
Nothing fancy, but it’s free so we can’t complain, right? Well, of course we can. I wanted to run PCR testing in my apartment. (Kidding, kidding.)
An Exciting Update
Starting next week, 3/7/2022, you can order TWO test kit orders per household!
This was previously ONE kit order per household regardless of the number of family members living in the home.
Other Resources Available
If you take a gander back at the landing page of COVIDtests.gov you’ll see there are few more resources you may or may not be interested in if you scroll down.
These include:
- A search function to find where to buy more at-home tests
- How to reimburse said tests through your insurance
- A list of FREE COVID testing sites
Why Should I Order Them?
You might be thinking, “Well, I have been getting assignments at hospitals and they offer FREE testing to all employees.”
Well, that’s fine and dandy, but what if they make you stay home until you tests results come in? And they’re backlogged due to short staffing…
Or, maybe you’re traveling to your next assignment location and start to get that yucky feeling.
I would want to know for my own peace of mind. Plus, they’re pretty compact and easy to travel with!
